Hi, Do ships and starbases in Phoenix store creation dates, like colonies used to in BSE? It's only a minor thing, but seeing this on the turn results would be pleasing. Many ships have a history, and its easy to lose that, this is something simple that can help. To this end, how about having a web page where players could post character bio's, ship or starbase histories, etc? There's the potential for lots of roleplaying content that people would find easy to write (you don't have to make it up out of whole cloth, just recount what battles and events your ship has been through, etc). This could be set up by KJC or by a third party. A quick and nasty alternative would be to have a Yahoo group or something. rob

Being a role play oriented player, I rather like this idea. I'm sure the hall of fame from some chracaters, ships and bases, together with a nice text would captivate a new phoenix player. If KJC doesn't pick on the idea, I'll be very happy to add this not only to my site, but also the the newsletter

I was of thinking of a site where a player could fill in a form and put their story up. Maybe broken into sections: characters, ships, colonies and events. Some kind of basic search facility, too, nothing elaborate needed really. There would need to be a way to pull up an entry and modify it, too, so that players could develop their entries over time as things happened. From a roleplaying perspective, this could be great. I try to roleplay personalities for my characters, but I find it hard to get much across in everyday interaction. Describing their personality on this website would be a bit of a 'cheat', but still a good idea, I think. Possibly a section could be added to this board for it? That way, we'd have authentication so that everybody could edit their own entries but not anyone else's. A regular feature in the newsletter would be good, too. You could ask players to submit character bio's, ship histories etc, and put one or two in the newsletter each week. Whatever we do, a key thing is that we'll have the stories all in one place, so that it can be backed up and kept for posterity. This is better than having them scattered across various web sites which will end up deleted when players leave etc. (We'll get more stories, too, if players don't need their own web site to do it. I don't have time to maintain a Phoenix website myself, but if we set this up I'll definitely contribute). yours, rob

I've just finished one big (big for me anyway :) project for Phoenix (which should hopefully be released to the public soon, pending Mica and David's feedback/permission). I'll probably quite enjoy looking into this. The basic thing would be a breeze to set up, but you're asking for something a bit more in-depth. I'm sure my development team and I can come up with some database driven thing, it just might not be quickly. :)

Like the sound of my starbase and ship reports telling me when my starbase/ship was built. Give a very good sense of time to things, and that can only increase the 'roleplayability'. It can be tricky to see a printout as an actual roleplayable position sometimes. The black and whits print can at times envoke little more responce than..... "OK, i need to nuild 3 of them, and 5 of them, and whack up 3 of these". Which is good.... Its good, but its not great! Woud this be something KJC coulc put on the turns. (Are the Peripheries starbase/ship creation records in the database thingymabob). Would very much like to see this. Thanks ![]()

It would be great if you could sort something out. I suppose that the key problem is the authentication and the editing facilities. As an interim solution, we could have a feature in the newsletter, and maybe a manually run site to get the ball rolling. (Players could submit their entries as plain text). If Pedro wants to start an IGN section, or someone wants to host a simple website, I'll get working on entries for my positions. rob

As of now, I'll add this kind of stuff on the IGN as long as, events during the week don't use up as much space as it did last week, where KJc felt they had to cut parts of it, though in the middle of a sentence was probably a bit careless:); and of course if I get any submissions. This in fact might prove a problem, since even the aff recruitment message tends to be left unsent by some affs. Heck some have never sent it even once

I don't recall seeing a message for the FEL to "send one in for next week" - although I could have missed it.... ![]()

Well it would have been very bad luck to have missed yours. Sometimes I even put notices for series of affs, like I did 2 weeks ago warning all confed affs. |
