Hi,

I'm trying to understand an economy scan and was wondering if someone could explain what it all means. In particular I'd like to know what the "VALUE" and "CURRENT" columns mean. What the Local and Global values mean. What items fall into the category of "Lifeform Demand"? Civilians? Alien Pets?

Here's the scan:

TRADE DEMAND (mus) VALUE (Stellars) CURRENT
Trade Goods 46 1 1
Drugs Demand 0 0 0
Lifeform Demand 441 1.65 1.65

MERCHANDISING MAXIMUM DROP/10 COMPLEXES
Local 69 25
| Global 23 3

Thanks

Hi

In your example below you can sell 46 trade goods to a planetary population. The VALUE (stellars) is a multiplier for the planet. In this case you can ignore it as it is 1. Sometimes you do get different values though.

The CURRENT value is what the planetary multiplier is now. If you consistently sell over the 46 MU every week then the demand for the planet will drop as you are overselling to the population and glutting the market. This is reflected by the CURRENT multiplier.

The local and global values determine how many stellars your merchandising complexes earn and also how many merchandising complexes you should put on a planet. The local value indicates the local population around the starbase and global is across the world.

If you look at the local factors it states that for the first 10 complexes you will get 69 stellars per complex. The next 10 will get 69-25 stellars and so on. So you can only ever exploit about 25 complexes from this planet from local factors.

A similar calculation can be done on the global factors. Alternatively logon to the Phoenix forum on yahoogroups and under the files section there is a merchandising spreadsheet which works it all out for you.

Be aware that other starbases on the same planet will share the global factors.

Hope that helps. There's more in the rule book.

Thanks great, thanks.

I didnt know about the Yahoo group, but I've joined it now.

I've read the manual, but I must admit I find it a bit "Wishy Washy"

Thanks

There is also a trade forum with more discussions etc.

Also on this board there is an article on selling to local populations and what multipliers you get selling items from different worlds.

Enjoy

"Life" items are considered to be those that can improve the infrastructure (and thus, eventually, trade goods demand) of the planet. So Alien Livestock fall into the category of "lifeform demand", as do civilians, but Alien Pets don't.

The way to tell is to get a tech manual for an item; if it says "Item Type: Life", then it will come under "Lifeform demand". This is _not_ the same thing as having "Lifeform: Yes", which just determines whether or not life support is needed on a ship to transport the item.
