Bit of a nitpicky thing but I wonder if a lighter blue and green font colour could be used on the market page to contrast better against the black background? I'm getting too many nasal smears on the monitor.... blink.gif

I am sure they could - what colours would you suggest? The html colour classification would be nice, saves lots of 'how about this, or this, or should we go with this?'

Another example of "player asks and gets..." I love this level of support...

(Not sucking up, just my post count was on 13 and didn't want to leave it there... Sorry)

Took me a little longer than expected but I reckon the following work better on a black backgound

Blue (standard good) - #0097FA
Green (lifeform) - #00CC95

another alternative would be to use an orange (ie; #D09700 )

Edited Note: I tried to show examples of the font colors, but couldnt get it to work on this forum

While you're at it, any chance of marking unique items in their own colour?

What do you mean? A unique resource item such as Plebian Goldfish or a unique item such as Officer Gandalbeard?

There would be the problem with new colours for unique resource items as they can also fall into other categories such as perishable etc - one of the reasons we put in the colour changes in the first place. Last thing we want is a confusing rainbow of colours. Green for life unless unique resource in which case it is purple... huh.gif

In the case of the latter - do people sell unique items on the open market anyway?

Unique trade items.

But good point about colours, so how about a symbol (easy to do in php - {if "unique" echo '*';} or to make it easier just italicise, or under/overline uniques?

No idea (because uniques are not indicated)...

Blue (standard good) - #0097FA
Green (lifeform) - #00CC95

The blue simply dissappeared into black (viewed using dreamweaver).
The green seemed a little pale - although admittedly much easier to read.

What do others think of the the colour suggestion?

Both look fine to me (IE6) clear and readable. (Not sure how they downgrade to 256 colours users, but they have got to be few and far between these days...)

I tweaked those colours just barely to make them websafe and added a slightly changed orange (and your original yellow). (Still not sure about the orange)

I can see the problem of needing a different colour for each:

normal item
lifeform
drug
trade item
trade item (perishable)
unique trade item
unique trade item (life)
unique trade item (life perishable)
unique trade item (perishable)
...and so on...

But I do like the idea of highlighting if something is Unique near it's name such as:

Plebian Goldfish (xxxx) {*}

And a note at the bottom of the item table stating:

{*} = origin specific item

or similar.

This will allow a small number of colours to show the difference in item type and let people who are interested in knowing that an item is "unique".

There was a recent incident were I told someone I would buy any non-perishable unique trade item at the basic value x a multiplier. The starcaptain then showed up at my starbase with 2700mus of generic drugs and 500 mus of normal jewellry. Had there been an indication of uniqueness on the market pages then this unfortunate incident could have been avoided.

Yes people do buy/sell unique trade goods on the open market all the time. The AFT & FCN are to name but two.

Would it be possible to add different menus in the market report? There is the existing Show all items (which I always use!), but how about one for each item type - Show Normal items, Show Lifeforms, etc? it allows you to straight away see the type of goods you are interested in.

I know the colour options sort of do this, but one persons favourite colour is anothers blinding headache and some computers/web software shows colours differently.

Now that's a wonderful idea. Can we please have that added, Mica?

Also I'd love to see a sort by numeric option in addition to the standard sort by alpha.

I'd like to see an all item summary list ordered by item number too.

What I'd also like to see is market reports on starbase printouts (and hence the individual starbase market reports on the website) sorted numerically. As most origin-specific trade goods have high numbers (30000+), this would instantly make it a _lot_ easier to find which are the trade goods. It would also make it a lot easier to find things when I'm looking through my own markets, to find out how much of a particular item I've currently got on the market...

While we're on the subject I think single lines (1px or 2px) borders around the table would probably help readability enormously.

What would really be nice is if the market reports had sections, like one section for tradegoods, another for ship items, another for ores, etc.

It would also be great in the manifest sorted out the tradegoods from the regular manifest like the ores are, it's a frelling pain in the arse sometimes to hunt thru your starbase's manifest to identify what tradegoods it has on hand.

Perhaps on reflection it may be easier to have the background of the table a light grey?....though that may mean changing the perishable lifeforms to a darker colour...

Some good suggestions for further enhancements to the markets....apologies for starting this off Mica!

Hi Mica, What I would like to see is a news paper for next Sunday show the Saturday's winning lottery numbers. If you can get this to me today I would be very grateful and would take you for a few pints for you generosity.

Does seem like every want and will not stop wanting, but I do like the unique items label {*}... Sorry to agree with them Mica wink.gif
Duckworth-Lewis
Not sure what anyone else thinks, but whilst the green isn't the nicest shade (..bit of a rotten green!) I think along with the blue it is a lot easier to make it out from the background now
JasTomo
I think the new colour system is great and feel that it is very functional... The only addition might be to add unique items with an identifing colour. But this would mean that unique items, unique perishables & unique lifeforms would all need changing...

And for the amount of work & extra confusion caused be the extra colours I feel it would not be too good an idea... dry.gif
Garg
how about just using bold in regards to unique goods, since the others dont have that, then should it be pretty easy to see the difference.
