This should give the updated ship stats for ship design [Updated the pl_items.cfg + exe version 1.0.2]
ptb | |||||||
The new file has tractorbeam MK i through IV shown, but all with the same stats? is this correct? as this is very different to what i had previously. Still appears to tell me a 25 hull ship only needs 2 isr drives, i was sure it is 3 (one per 10 hulls or part thereof)
Thali Rahm | |||||||
It is possible to have only 2 isr-drives on a ship with 25 hulls, but you get frequent isr-failures that costs 10 tus. This goes for all sizes, for example you can have 7 isr-engines on your caravel (75 light hulls). Not recommended though. ![]()
Dan Reed | |||||||
Prescisely - you need 3 ISR drives for overload-free travel on a 25 hull ship... so the editor should show the requirement as 3, not 2. Dan
Thali Rahm | |||||||
I agree. | |||||||
David Bethel | |||||||
the item file might not be current then.... if you have the old one use that. I will have a look for a newer one.
David Bethel | |||||||
can you pm me the file that cuases this as it works fine with a 25 huller i tried.
Steve-Law | |||||||
I tried 25 hulls of every type and 2 ISR engines always said I didn't have enough while 3 had no problem. (Incidentally, platform hulls still use the same requirements as ship hulls, you should address that next update, but otherwise thanks ![]()
ptb | |||||||
I must admit i never tried clicking the requirements button, I was going by the IRS speed of Type (installed/required). At least i assume thats what those numbers mean, they go up as i'd expect when you add an engine or a block of ten hulls.
Steve-Law | |||||||
Ah, yes, it shows x/2 instead of x/3.
Steve-Law | |||||||
You *could* put 1 engine on a 200 hull ship. Won't get very far very fast, but it's possible and would still technically "work". You can build a ship with no bridge and as long as you have enough crew [i.e. enough extra crew to compensate], it works perfectly. Similarly, you don't need a jump drive, you can piggyback the ship to new systems, or fit them temporarily for the jump then remove again. Other requirements though are vital - if you have no life support or sensors the ship won't budge (life support anyway, not 100% sure about sensors, but I'd expect so.) Has anyone tried a ship without thrust engines? It could move from system to system, even around the system, but couldn't orbit (could be unloaded by teleporters or shuttles... interesting ![]()
Dan Reed | |||||||
You'd probably need to install one to get it out of orbit in the first place, BUt I see no reason why not. Wonder if you'd be able to dock at a space station for maintenance?
David Bethel | |||||||
Docking requires movement of some appropriate type... so no ![]()
Added version with correct ISRs showing on X/Y ISRs bit
ptb | |||||||
The ship editor shows a 50 normal hull ship having a surface area of 78, but the turn update for my solo class ship claims 77. I know this is only a minor thing, but when your dealing numbers of armour plates and things like cloaking devices it can be important.
David Bethel | |||||||
Well the ship editor is the same code used in the game, so it can not be 'wrong'. [In terms of what will actually happen] . Try putting 77 armour plates on and see if you get 40 armour.
llywelyn | |||||||

ptb | |||||||
so 78 and 77 both give 40 armour, but on the 78 it would give 40 armour for longer?
you feeiling okay ![]()
David Bethel | |||||||
Yup - you can over armour ships (as i understand it) but it makes them a heavier with has a cost in that direction.
Rich Farry | |||||||
Can this version of the ship editor be placed on the KJC website please?
clif lawrence | |||||||
could a ship without crew or thrust engines or any of that stuff be "embarked" by a star base . I know you can disembark a ground party out of a high port.
Phoenix Hawk | |||||||
Very late reply on embarking, but here's my thoughts... 1. If you own the ship, you can. 2. If you own the gp you can 3. If it's a debris field, and you've the id you can ![]() Phoenix Hawk |
