Can naval officers train in civilian skills?

Yes, and vice versa applies as well it appears.

they can train in naval things but because they cant have anyone on enemy lists the training wont take effect, although it does bring up the fact that this should not be possible that is for sure.

it would be viable to put lots of officers on trading ships just to keep geting the odd points every now and then and then convert them to naval when the time comes with extra combat effect.

I don't entirely agree with this last assessment.

Skills in stealth and other naval related skills are just as applicable when defending against the attacks of pirates or others as they would be to a normal naval officer.

The fact that civillian officers cannot manipulate enemy lists is an unrelated aspect to the skill sets of officers in general.
Gandolph
i do as most of the points you acrue would not be through pirate action but through moving or delivering something of that nature not combat.

and how many pirate actions have you been in, a couple? so you get 2 points over the last 2 years, its hardly major experience which is currently gained by non naval officers.

Very true the rate that civilian officers acquire experience is definately much slower than naval officers who spend much time in combat.

However, any experience gained is still worth having and ought to be of some use eventually.

The point I was trying to make here, is that naval skills are just as much value to a civilian officer as a naval officer.

I think there are a couple of Naval skills that really cross into the civilian bracket as well. Leadership which applies to crew factors in particular i think should be a skill available to both.
