Hiya all,

Okay I am looking at my ship design and have read through a topic from last year regards Beam vs Missile damage.

As I cannot see anything since this discussion could I ask just how Beam weapons are now handled in combat - especially with regards to Scintillators?

I am primaraly interested in Ship vs Ship engagements.

Do scints operate differently vs size of Beam weapon or is there anything else which multiples their effectiveness vs beam weapons?

Just asking as from what I have seen Scints seem to largely negate any Beam weapon attack.

Thanks
Ian

Scints negate all beam weapons it's depth coverage. scints mk1 and assuming full coverage kills 10 dmg.

mk2 kills 15....etc

I believe I am correct in saying that, like anything else, the effect of scints is based upon a bell curve. So if you have full scintillator coverage (i.e. scint depth 20 from mkI scints), then the scints will stop an average of 10 damage from every beam weapon shot to hit the ship. It's a bell curve with an average of 10, so there is a small chance that you would stop 20 damage and a small chance that you would stop none.

The scint effect is applied to each individual weapon that hits the ship. So the damage from Light Photon Guns will be almost entirely stopped by scints, while a Heavy Photon Battery will only have a small portion of its damage stopped by the scintillators.

Note that beam weapons are not very useful against installations on the ground, as many planets have atmospheres that will replicate the effects of scintillators, only with greater depth.
