Hi,

If I have a ship blueprint, and a range of component items at different tech levels, what ones will be used when I build the ship? Is there any way for me to choose (other than removing all mk's except the one I want).

e.g. I have an EEM BroadSword blueprint. I have mk1, mk2 and mkIV heavy hulls, mk1 and mk3 missile launchers etc. When I build the ship, which versions will be used?

I remember that this was discussed before but I don't remember what the end result was.

thanks,
rob

The build ship order has a "use best" option. Not selecting this (as I believe I've just done when building 2 ships - DOH!) will stick to the items specified on the blueprint. Selecting it should use the best mks if items available to the shipyard(s).

You will use by default whatever is specified on the blueprint. So if the blueprint requests mkII etc, you will use this. If a blueprint has been set for any item above mkI it will never use an inferior item.
If you have selected substitution (use best), you will replace what you have requested with the highest mk# available.

If you have both mkI and MKII for a range of items and want to use some mkI's for some items and mkII's for others even though the blueprint specifies mkI throughout, you cannot. The only way around this is to remove the ones you do not want to use and tick the use best option.

Why have we not gone to the length of a zillion tags allowing full control each time? Because it is too much of a headache for players. We have given the basic choice of use default or use best. This is sufficient in virtually all cases.
