Hi

I find the different reports within the printout really useful eg Complex / Personnel / Raw Material etc.
Is it possible to have others as large starbases tend to have large inventory reports which is not as user friendly as if you had :

Module Report
Trade Item Report ie what can be sold to local populations
Naval Report - all weapons and their ammo
Military Report - Ground items

The balance should be ship items which can be left in the inventory report.

If we had some or all of these other types of report it would make the printout really easy to read and manage.

I agree. Some more reports along these lines would be useful.

The only issue with leaving "ship items" in the inventory report is where do sensors/shields/shield gens/scints get put? In with the Naval report or left in the Inventory report? Either way they are items that are used by the starbase and may be used in ship building, but then again so are the Naval weapons. I guess the "most appropriate" place should be used, in this case the Naval report, leaving "inert" items such as bunks, quarters, engines, hulls, armour plates, etc in the inventory report.

If this sort of feature could be considered to overwhelm a player then can it be made available as an option that can be toggled on/off to meet the players preference? An extra order "Use expanded inventory reports" <tickbox>, maybe??

A trade item report would be very good. An indication of how much each trade item would pay for would be good as well!

A trade report containing all the items that can be sold to the local population, yes. A trade report giving an indication of trade item value - not sure on this one. There are exising orders that allow you to find out what an item is worth at a given location.

Andy's original idea (I believe) is to make it easier to find items within your starbase results by breaking out certain item types into their own inventory reports. No suggestion of adding other information that is not already provided (i.e. item number, name, quantity, total mass).

That's the idea anyway. Make the printout really user friendly so that you can just jump to the area you want.

Hey what about putting hyperlinks in the printout for HTML enabled users, like what was done in the Quest printouts.

This was really usefull to jump between the reports.

At the top you have a list of all the sections. If you select one you jump immediately to that section. Similarly if you select the header of the section you are reviewing it takes you back to the header sector with the full list.

You could also put in sub sections eg whilst reviewing the ground weaponary you can jump to the Ground combat report (alternatively put them all together would be best)

Personally I would want to see these items in the Naval report but then I don't have any shipyards so concentrate on the starbase itself.

A toggle might be a good idea or alternatively the naval items are duplicated in the normal inventory report?

There has always been talk about providing results in formats other than plain text but what we have at the moment is plain text. It should stay plain text and remain plain text until the end of time.

By all means, when a html version of the results are available, have whatever hyperlinks, pictures, sound, etc included that you wish. After that come the PDF and Flash versions of turn results quickly followed by .net formatted results for all you Microsoft lovers out there.

Could naval items that are required for ship building be untooled / tooled eg 1000 missile launchers could be tooled and ready to fire in Naval but a further 200 untooled launchers could be in the inventory section available for ship building.

This makes sense to me as you want to produce enough launchers for ships but not too many so that it wipes out your ammo in one round. Tooling / untooling to take one week.

An excellent suggestion but one in danger of being lost amongst the subject of your thread which was the modification of the inventory report. I'd start this suggestion off in another thread to allow people to focus on it. Some people may not care about the inventory report and as such not bother to read about this new order you're suggesting.

Also, your earlier comment:

Which I missed, I don't think I'd want to see the same items listed twice in inventory reports. It's enough at the moment to see space weapons in the inventory and then again in the space combat report. That is necessary but twice in inventory reports would be confusing IMHO.

Or until they shoot me. I'm sticking with text forever however i plan it improve the parser to allow turns to be
converted HTML but i have a feeling that when i do that it will be nicely linked to make it easy to read.
