I had always thought Orbital Docks meant a ship no longer needed to land on a planet/starbase to interact with it (say use its recreation complexes) and saved the ship tus. However, I just had two ships try to do this, but they landed (and incurred the tu landing costs), so what are obital docks used for?

Hi, Orbital docks allow ships to take off or land in 40 TUs regardless of manoeuvre speed. They also allow ships to land regardless of the planet's gravity rating. If a ship can land or take off in less than 40 TUs, it won't use the docks. Does anyone know if using orbital docks causes integrity loss like normal takeoffs and landings? I haven't noticed any loss myself. rob

1 Orbital Dock required per 25 ship hulls, allows a vessel to land or take off in 40 TUs regardless of maneouvre rating and planetary gravity. As for integrity loss, I have had a heavy huller lose .4 integrity from using a orbital docking facility before.

Do Orbital Dock's have the same impact on sensor profile for a hidden starbase that a hiport does, ie 5000mu added??? pete

Orbital docks don't have the same effect as hiport on scan. Whether there should be a similar effect might be another thread.

As with most "strenuous" movements, there is a chance to lose integrity , although I belive the chance and maximum amount are both less than docking without. Dan |
