Hi, It seems that battle bridges are not an automatically useable substitute item for a normal bridge when building a ship Can they be classified as a substitue item so if you dont have a normal bridge it uses a battle bridge instead without having to re-jig the bp? (like modules and most other items) Cheers, Ewan CNF.

Is this truly desirable? Would the builders of trade ships really want to put a battle bridge in if no normal bridges were avaiable? Remember substitution is not a two way thing. So which should substitute which? It is easy to do, should it though?

Ideally the starbase would use the predefined one in all cases except where it has run out of the default and checks for others available of that item type - in this case if run out of normal bridges then use a battle bridge if that is availoable instead. If the default was battle bridge then the opposite would be true. Better to build a ship with a bridge (some kind of bridge) than no bridge at all I reckon ![]() Cheers, Ewan.

There are actually 3 types of bridge. There is no reason why there will not be more in the future. The important thing is that these are not actually related, i.e. one is not a higher mk than another. A ship wanting to install photon cannons as per the blueprint will not however install light photon guns, using the logic, it is better to have some guns than no guns. The more I think about it, the more likely it is that players will complain when substitution results in them getting something they are not pleased about then complaining further when they get charged for a special action to sort it all out ![]() At least you know that if you do not have a bridge, then you have to install one of your choice. If you have too many ships to keep track of new ones, then it is time to hand some over to affiliation members crying out for them.

I disagree. I'd rather the ship was built with no bridge at all. You can then either install one that you have already in stock, or build the required bridge ready to install. Worst case? It takes an extra 10TUs to pick-up and install the deisred bridge.

I argree with Mica here, I would prefer for it to be left out than the wrong one installed even if it is of the same type. It's a very small integrity loss for the ship to pick up or for the starbase to install direct. It would be twice that much to uninstall the wrong thing and replace it. I have a similar problem with a blueprint I have in that 3 items are not included in the build because I don't have the mkII's on hand, just means I install tham myself after the build. Cheers Jons |
