The new planetary upgrade is eagerly anticipated, but what exactly will be included? Or is that a trade secret? ph34r.gif

The main thing I'd like to know is if pollution will become an issue. Does having a severly overpopulated planet with heavy industry threaten the local ecology? Does a Chemical Weapon attack also affect the local wildlife? Will a plague-infected ship crew be capable of acidently wiping out the entire race of Miniture Hairy Cows on the planet?

If it does, then I have a whole host of research and Special Action ideas.... cool.gif
If it does not, then I need to become a one-man think tank in order to sell products that give no game benefit..... blink.gif

I'm assuming not, as it is an extreamly complex system, but I'd like confirmation before I set foundations now that will cause me headaches later..... smile.gif

Hi

I'm sure pollution will become an issue if there are too many urban sectors on a planet. Certainly the more urban sectors there are the less resources you can expect tto exploit aas nnatural habitat will be destroyed.

SSimilarly chemical weapons / nukes etc will devastate regions and alter the planetary ecology.

Not sure about plague infected crew though

I would certainly hope that was the case, but this is not quite what I mean. Let's pick on the SMS for an example... wink.gif
Garden is a gloriously lush planet with an fantastic bio-diversity. It produces many different specials from the plants and animals present. The SMS are the only affiliation to place a Starbase there - so the amount of "urban" sectors is minimal on this planet, and things still chug along nicely. They don't over-exploit anything so again all is good and groovy. smile.gif
BUT.... they do start up the biggest mining operation in the galaxy, construct 1000 Factories producing who-knows-what pollutants as a by-product, have 1million employees all producing litter/sewage, and they have a new special resource obtaining Celesium using strip-mining techniques. Will THESE things have any effect on the planetary conditions? huh.gif

It's an awful lot of work to model these things with any realism, but it opens the door for some great research and affiliation profiling. As I said before, if it IS in, then fantastic. If it is NOT, then that's fine too. Just knowing one way or the other is the big thingy smile.gif

I doubt whether it is in at the moment, but something to consider for the future.

If the game will go in that direction, then will unique items more or less disappear, because already now there is huge planets with hardly any amounts to produce anyway, due to how game was like in BSE.

Not true at all. Currently, over exploitation can lead to the loss of resources, as should be so. Taking my example used above:

1) The SMS have to decide on where to balance their needs with the planetary ecology. I would think that they're most likely to stuff the wildlife and go with the mining operations & production. That's what they do. dry.gif

2) On the other hand, a trading aff such as the FCN is unlikely to want to loose those items that it can profit from, and would limit their production/mining to ensure the starbase's ecological impact is minimalised. $ rolleyes.gif $

3) The Wimbles turn up and start hugging trees saying they look nice, and anyways mine shafts are big dangerous, dirty thingies. And... ooh.... look at that lovely flower! biggrin.gif

4) The FEL turn up and say "hey guys, look what we've got! Air filters! You can increase your production without increasing your environmental impact!! Woohoo! Only $100,000 to you my good friend! And some heavy petting." tongue.gif

It would give a further system of conflict (political, economical, moral AND physical!) for the game to rotate around - basically taking the exploitation of resources system further.
And it can also help create NEW unique items - if you know what you're doing cool.gif
