Corrr... the honour or being the first person to post something in the New Year eh ![]() Is it possible to show data on the political including the aff infront of it? My political listing of positions is getting very much like a who's who in the galaxy and it is now more trouble than help to find information from it. After a year of playing and running only 3 survey ships, I'd hate to think what other peoples looks like ![]() Cheers Jons - SMS

It's a nice idea and would make things easier to keep track of. However, I imagine it could cause a problem when a position on your report changes hands from one aff to another. Should your political report say who the starbase belonged to when you last scanned it or at present. If it shows it when you last scanned it then you could get into trouble if you orbited a world with a starbase that had just changed from CNF to IMP for instance. And if your report stated who it belonged to at present then a very good way for an aff to keep track of the state of play of the galactic politics would be to get ships to scan every single starbase in the game and then the aff would see as soon as a starbase changes hands. yep - good thinking... just coz you know where a starbase is, you wouldn't necessarily know who owns it if you don't drop by from time to time.

Well... we're still talking about a sci-fi environment with faster-than-light subspace communication here. A public starbase will invariably transmit its affiliation along with its location data. Non-public starbases, on the other hand, are unlikely to respond to any queries. Opens a whole can of worms (like, will you see the last confirmed affiliation of non-public starbases? If so, how do you know wether it's outdated? etc.) I'd very much prefer to keep that information overflow away from my political printout. A possible solution would be the re-introduction of the position inquiry (PI) orders we had in BSE, but as a downgraded version. Essentially it should be possible to request the EEM registry for position #X and if it is a public starbase you get the affiliation code. Otherwise you get no info at all. Slightly off-topic: Some time ago somebody suggested to cut down the mandatory political report to its bare bones. The report section could be reduced to include only those sections which were requested by means of a political orders. I liked that idea a lot.

Blimey - a CIA member who is against the idea of easy information gaining and who uses an example of a CNF starbase changing to IMP and not the other way around ![]() Yes I can see that I have opened a can of worms here. I can see the reason for not having the aff listed as it would broadcast the change of ownership, and thats something that even I wouldn't like ![]() As Frabby said, public starbases would/should broadcast their location and the aff in question..... If you go onto the market site, anybody with a market will appear along with their aff name even if they ain't public...... Cheers Jons - SMS

I made a suggestion along those lines - I was originally mentioning it in relation to starbase reports (hence the topic is "Starbase Reports" in this section, created 17th Nov), but the same idea would work as well (or better!) with political reports. Back on-topic, while I can see that showing affiliations on the political report would cause problems, it would perhaps be useful for the restricted data archives to highlight those data items which are new that week. Certainly then much easier to keep track of things in a separate spreadsheet. Alternatively, perhaps the parser could be used to hold a database of starbases scanned, which can then update the bases from each political report and the affiliations as and when you scan them? If it was easy everyone would be doing it and we'd be out of a job! ![]() Darren

|-Restricted Information Archive-----------------------------------------------| | | | Starbases: I find this part of the political turn completely useless. It would be nice if they were sorted by affiliation and/or location (pref. location) .... maybe even by them being public/non-public. You are paying 2£ for the political. There is no information on it that I can not keep by myself. and before anyone says otherwise, we managed fine without it in BSE. I realize KJC has to make money somehow, but if I have to pay for something then give me something usefull in return. As it is now ...bah ![]() Having said all that though, I'd much prefer that KJC concentrate on the trade and world pouplation packages first ![]() Gord |
