(before I start, note that I may be incorrect in my assessment of the cause of today's events)

It appears that attacking a position on the same planet as anybody else can be very bad for the health of all concerned. As far as I can tell, a battle occurred today because one party (the DEN) decided to attack an outpost. There was nobody on the planet defending the outpost, but there _were_ other starbases defending the attacking player (including several of his own starbases).

As soon as the outpost changed control, we entered the situation where there was a DEN position (the newly captured outpost) being attacked (by the attacking DEN ground party). This triggered the Defend lists of a couple of other starbases on the planet, and a multi-way firefight ensued (luckily only for one round).

Should this really happen?

Surely, _immediately_ upon the change of control, the targeting lists of anybody attacking that outpost should be checked, and cleared now that the same player owns the outpost. This should happen _before_ any other lists are checked (such as those from other starbases on the planet.

And if other players (other than the one who gains control) are attacking that outpost, should they not also all have their target lists cleared immediately upon a change of control?

Or should there be an option when adding positions to your enemy list for them to only be enemies while they remain a specific affiliation?

it brings in the requirement to have a not to shoot at policy, where you can specify who not to shoot at on a list, incase things like this happen

I guess it does replicate the chaos of a combat situation.

A 'friendly fire' incident that only lasts one round isn't too bad. I guess that's future comms for you...

"This is Bravo One to Artillery Two You are firing on our position I repeat YOU ARE FIRING ON OUR POSITION please redirect your fire the outpost has fallen..."

yes but sometimes the starbases are large that could be getting involved, the equivelent of London and Washington launching "the big stuff" at each other just because a third party invaded a small town in Wales (which to be fair isnt really a problem biggrin.gif )

the command structure would look at the situation and overrule, or wait for the actual launch of nuclear weapons and the heading before retaliation begins etc etc.

Had a horrible feeling of Deja-vu there for a moment reading that biggrin.gif

Yes I agree that the combat lists for the captured outpost should be wiped, otherwise the the new controller could be targeting friendly positions. This means
that you could wipe yourself out by the supporting starbase/warships.....

Nasty....
