Personally, i see the Political position as a necessary evil - it performs some basic admin (wealth, affiliation orders, etc) but adds nothing tangible to my positions. I have always considered the most useful feature (besides pooling wealth) as the information summary given about all your positions, but now most of this is available on the online order editor.

Whilst losing a political through assassination can have a major impact on your positions.

I would like to suggest that the Political position be given some tangible in-game abilities. It costs the same as a starbase, so perhaps something as powerful as a starbase? ie production, cash generation or something more specialised that perhaps another position could not do.

For example, you could have staff for a political, who could be trained and give benefits to all your positions (extra efficiency, lower wages, etc).

Even if it was just a simple benefit to the position were they are located. If its one of your own positions, it gains a bonus because the Big Boss is there (at a starbase it could be improved merchandising, reduced wages, extra man hours, etc; on a ship, more crew factors and so on).

Just some ideas :-)

Personally I disagree.
The political officer is busy enough rolling around in red-tape and trying to organise everything. It's he who is co-ordinating all of your ships movements, making sure auths are issued, ensuring ground troops keep their buttons shiney etc, etc.

The only thing I would like to see, is a bonus to Security Rating at the starbase/outpost/ship/GP where the political is stationed. It makes sense, as any important official takes a personal security officer and/or group with him/her.

Maybe an slight increase in efficiency due to the boss constantly doing "surprise" inspections or something. But certainly not production.
