Had a number of questions pop up regarding the Stellar Cartography Tech: 1) Is the location of previously inacessable systems directly tied to this Tech? 1a) If so, does the Tech need to be Tooled in the researched system to have access to the new systems, or can it be tooled anywhere? 1b) Does the the System Information gained from Stellar Cartography become "idle" (and hence unusable) until such time as the Tech is tooled (ie: if the Tech is moved to a more secure location)? 2) What happens if the Stellar Cartography Tech is Stolen or Destroyed? Does the knowledge of the previously inaccessable system remain? If the System location was Aff Information, does this info remain, or is it lost? This seems like a version of Aff Tech to me, hence my asking. This would also allow Affs to trade Stellar Cartography Techs to allies with no Technique Copying time - just the tool/untool times 2a) If System location knowledge is lost, what happens to outposts/starbases located in the inaccessable system? Can ships get "out" to known systems, but not return because of the loss of knowledge? Thanks, Rich Fanning aka ![]() Lord Lawrence Scrimm CIA Director of Regional Operations

Yes. Completion of the Stellar Cartography for a system can be followed by a special action to use the tooled tech to indentify any adjacent previously unknown systems. This can even be done through stargates. Example Completion of Stellar Cartography - Twinkle will allow for a special action to identify, i.e. add to Political Knowledge and restricted system that is adjacent to Twinkle. This includes Noctollis and Forlorn Hope (and may be others). It is up to the political whether he transfers this info to his affiliation etc. Stellar Cartography is not guaranteed to pick up all systems that are connected. There is a case for higher levels of Stellar Cartography although these have much less chance of discovering new systems.
Tooled in the correct system. The only reason to move it somewhere else is to allow research into stargate keys as these have the appropriate stellar cartography.
Info remains. Should the player enter the new system with ships and transfer the ships to other players - players without access to the system knowledge, they can still jump out as long as they have knowledge of an adjacent system. The only time the ships become trapped is when there are no known systems that can be jumped to.

The Stellar cartography technique is also a direct requirement for the stargate key blueprint - hence it must by nature include something to do with the stargate and where it goes to for systems with stargates... Dan

It is reasonable to suppose that the stargate keys tech is required along with the stellar cartography in order to determine the system on the other side of the stargate. It may be a little too much to require a new tech as well. |
