The new order editor (offline) sorts turns alphabetically, initially. It took me a phone call with Mica to find the sequencing order (right-click on a given position, there's a new Sequence option in the right-click menu). Now my question is: How "Hard" is this sequencing? Up until now, positions were processed in the order they were input, i.e. every turn file was a list of sequenced orders in a way. With the notable exception of positions which had their maintenance due on a given day - those positions are invariably processed prior to any others. Which could really mess up complex sequences. :/ Does the 'Sequence' order bypass this now, and truly force a sequence to turns, or will positions on maintenance still be processed first?

Can't answer for positions on Maintenance, however, if you enter your turns and then right-click for sequence, the order editor DOES change the sequence. (Instead of uploading, I tried it and saved like normal. Opened the turn 1st time and looked at order then changed sequence and it DIDchange the sequence.) Hope this is helpful Llywelyn

I can't give a positive answer on this but I'm fairly sure the sequencing of maintenance turns is unchanged. The new sequencing dialogue is just that; a new way to sequence your turns, not a change to the actual mechanics of it.

My understanding is that the sequencing works for the turns involved but not for Starbases. Experience with ships has confirmed this, have not tried a starbase. Geoff

I t also works for starbases, as long as the weekly update is not running. So you could pick up some goods in one starbase, deliver them to the next starbase and then use the same complexes to build more factories...

Does anyone else find the old method of doing this easier?

The old method may have been easier for players but from a processing point of view, having every single turn arriving in the office sequenced to another and the whole lot grinding to a halt every three seconds because a ship in Yank making deliveries was sequenced to a GP in New Sussex that was talking with the local natives and giving the GM such a bogging headache that he wants to hurl the bloody machine out of the sodding window... nash.... rarrg.... ahhh! ![]() Now we have a system that only sequences turns when they are required to be sequenced and life is much sweeter. ![]()

Okay, thats fair enough ![]() However, I think my editor tends to add turns into the sequence list by itself? Generally when I want to sequence some turns I have to clear out positions that are already in the sequence turn area first... Could just be me not doing something right, will check tonight.

Are you reusing the same set of turns and not clearing them ? If so then it will keep some of the old sequence. The sequecne will only be lost when you have no turns showing in the turn box.

Argggh, so if I understand you correctly, only the positions which needs to be sequenced need to be in the sequenced part of the order set??? oooooops.. will stop adding the whole bunch of positions to that side of the screen.

I just: - Ran the order editor exe - Selected 'Start New Turns' from the drop down combo box, which clears the turns in the turn area - Did a turn for a position - Right clicked and selected 'Sequence Turns' This brings up the Sequence Turns window, and the position for which I had just done a turn for appears on the right hand list. Am I doing something wrong, misunderstanding how it should work, or is there a problem?

I've had that occasionally too, not sure what causes it myself, the online order editor suffers no such problem ![]() Personally i like the current sequenceing system, as i know exactly which order ships are going to be processed in, with the exception of a starbase or outpost on maintence day of course. Although there are limits to the ordering, for example if i have two sets of ships doing transfers, A giving items to B and C giving items to D i have to order it so A and C go before B and D respectivly, which is fine, however theres no reason A has to go before D and C before B which means your still getting more constrictions than you really need although you can tweak it if you feel like running notepad or something end editing the current.trn file, and i think doing that will let you run any of your positions after any position someone esle owns too. |
