not sure if this is a bug or if gp's need a certain crew type to work? i figured an employee would be enough to do my exploration?

Employees don't have crew factors - you need crew or troops to run equipment, I think.

hmm all i was trying to do was to pickup the equipment, but i guess it just checks for no crew factors, (that 1 employee is the some total of the party atm

If possible I think it'd be good to have employees with a fraction of a crew factor

Yup, I had a GP once with one employee, and it couldn't do anything.

It could look after 1 inactive complex, but employees are not supposed to do anything else. (It's not in their training

Now, as I remember, the complicated part of the operation was getting rid of the damned useless 1 employee GP that sucked up $101 per week.

Best paid employee in the Peripheries him.

I just did something similarly silly. My political has been residing in a GP for the last few months, and the other day I ran orders for the GP to deliver everything back to one of my starbases.

Suffice to say, I left the political positions delivery till last. BIG mistake as he doesn't have any crew factors... lazy git can't be bothered to walk from the starport to the starbase proper.

The best way to sport it out would be for another position to deliver some troops, or anything else you want in the GP.
