The current forced battle routine for an outpost/starbase scans the sector, orbit and the starport. How can a known outpost on the same world be attacked by planetary ground weapons such as ground bombers/artillery. As far as I can see, there is no order.

Ground Assault GP or Starbase would work if you were using a GP to attack the outpost, but as for a starbase attacking the outpost - the 'Trigger Battle' order has the description:
Presumably by landed it means the rest of the planetary surface? At least, that's what I'd have thought ![]()

Not this is the problem that order does not see positions in other sectors. Nic

This makes no sense. Why should a star base (even a gigantic one) be automatically capable of knowing what has landed on the far side of a planet/moon.

If the starbase has a platform, the recon report will tell you - if you spot a GP - and once you know where starbases are, they don't tend to move much! If the attacks are limited to those you have current knowledge of, why not? Dan

Any decent sized starbase could be expected to have deployed comms and surveilence sattelites, orbiting platforms currently do the surveilance bit. Geoff

Finally got the long range weapons working, but this required the use of a GP to trigger the defend lists of the starbase using the long range weapons. For role playing reasons, we will have to say you need to "paint" the target to be able to use artillery. Dan said a platform would work but platforms dont see known positions like outposts, just the positions that are visible to the scanners. Another bug in my opinion but one that has not until now been important. Nic |
