Shield/scint depth represents the maximum damage that can be absorbed from a single attack, and the expected value is half that; is that right? How is the reduction calculated?
ptb
I think it's a 'random' number between zero and the maximum sheild depth. (so on average we get the half).

For the actual depth i have no idea smile.gif i just look at the ship editor.

Shield/scint depth is the maximum number that a single hit will be reduced by - on average it is half the depth.

The value absorbed from a hit by shields is the value that is substartced from the shield factors.

There is no scint depletion because there are no scint factors (scints make up the scint depth directly). You need to destroy the scints to wear down scint depth.

Yes, but what *kind* of random number?
Dan Reed
Most likely a Bell curve - they've been used in most places where we need a random result I believe
