Again, this is not a bug, things are working as designed (as far as I know) but a query/suggestion as to the "logic" of that design.

Today I used a starbase to pickup, then deliver some cargo from/to a visiting freighter. There was 6000 mus of cargo space.

The starbase used its shuttle capacity first (4500) then teleporters to pickup the cargo. Problem then is that it had no capacity left to deliver (nearly 20000 teleporter capacity left, but no shuttles).

I (humbly) suggest that teleporters, if available, should be used first for pickups, even from the same planet/orbit. Shuttles should only be used for pickups if there is not enough (or any) teleporter capacity.

As things are I couldn't deliver anything to the freighter, whereas reversing the order of priority for complexes used, I would have been able to deliver 4500 mus and still pick everything up.

The problem with placing teleporters first is that their use would be wasted on the first couple of pickups in orbit.

Would mean everyone would need huge telporter capacities

Yeah - I agree with this. It would be bad. How about a "use teleporter capacity first" overide box?

or stop the ship an orbital ring away, then pick up with the starbase, then move the ship into orbit deliver the new stuff with shuttles... takes a bit longer, but if you were in a rush then I guess you'd just be doing deliver / pick up with the ships TUs?

In this case it wasn't my ship. It's always harder to coordinate with others :) It was actually a problem with authorisations, so would have been easier to have the base do it than try to sequence turns etc.

Incidentally though, there was a hiport at this starbase, with a ship in orbit, why didn't the hiport deliver/pickup the cargo?

Forgive my ignorance if it doesn't work like this but if a ship picks up or delivers to a starbase it will use the hiport to do the transferring (i.e. not using any of the shuttle or teleporter capacity) but the same ability is lost when the starbase is doing the transfer? Is that right?

However, an option to chose priority would be fine by me.

Highports are demand installations, i.e. they cannot initiate interaction. View them as a drive-thru as opposed to pizza delivery. biggrin.gif
