i dont know if this is meant to be displayed or not, but today on my battle report i had details of what every enemy ship type is, IE Carrier, Missile ship etc etc, and also full details of how much each ship has of hull damage.

Is this right, surely this is too much info?

Jerusalem
It does seem like a lot of info. Although, I can see reasons for it, I mean, ships would be able to look at each other, and see what they're configurations are, and observe how damaged they are. Particularly ships with experianced captains and crews onboard. So, I think it's more realistic.

Yep, I was rather surprised as well. Im not entirely sure how a DTR ship can see that an IMP ship has exactly 73% hull damage, for example. Light, medium, heavy, critical damage as has been displayed before is surely more reasonable?

I can put that back if yo ulike - it was on the demo battle i put out 4 weeks ago though....

its open to abuse that one, i only had 1 ship present yesterday and get a full list af every DTR ship its condition and the sort of weapons it has on board.

IE its a carrier, missile ship etc etc, this is a bit too much, information should be more relative, i can accept that the ship your firing at you would get this information but not the whole lot.

If I understand things correctly, part of the idea of the change was to give participants in combat an easier way to get an overview of what is going on in the battle. As such, I think it perfectly reasonable that you know the types of ships that are facing you, especially since you know have the option of picking which types to target.

If you scan a ship during standard movement, you will know what type of vessel it is; given that all these other ships are in the same orbital quadrant as you, they are fighting so visible to all and sundry, and you are more likely to be alert, it seems entirely reasonable that you can tell the types of ships that are there!

A less accurate description of damage levels does sound like a sensible idea though...

Just a non-warrior's 2p :-)

Btw: You are supposed to know what type each ship in the battle is. Is this a problem ?

It would be a rotten captain who cannot identify the type of vessels in his immediate region and/or standard armament types !!!

I support David's general intent to provide detailed information. However, due to the 'Fog of War' principles, maybe it is is worthwhile considering randomising some of the reported statistical values, i.e., building in a small +- margin of error?

I agree, it is probably easy enough to tell which type of ship is which, espeically after the first round of combat (ie a missile ship isn't going to be the one lauching fighters). However as i havn't seen a battle report for the new system (anyone feel like sending me one?) i can't say for sure if it's too much information or too little.

Exact percentages should be avoided i think though. Although theres no reason why onboard computers couldn't work out exactly how many missile launchers the other ship s have (provided they were fired) i don't think the same would be true of structural damage, or shield strengths. (obvoius things like that massive gaping hole in the side of the ship might give hints however)

Some bits of sample data from a new style battle report, I only had one ship there, a Search & Rescue Surveyor with navigational problems, and it was blown up, must have trasmitted the data before it blew ohmy.gif

IMP Lady Charlotte (89288) - Ship
Surveyor Class Troop Transport {No Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
Attacking DTR ????? (nnn) - 0 [25] Damage
BLOWN UP!

DTR ??? (nnnnn) - Ship
Cluster Picket Class Scout {Medium Armour}
Armour: 65.2
Hull Damage: 61.1%
Targeted by GCS Pollux Defence Gamma (31721) - 0 [0] Damage
Attacking GCS Pollux Defence Gamma (31721) - 0 [0] Damage

yer hull and armour percentages are a bit much in my opinon, the other info is good, and some vague hull/armour would be nice.

i have no idea what it looked like before either, never been in a battle tongue.gif

what does the 0 [0] Damage bit mean?

I rather like Nik's suggestion of having reports of light, medium, heavy, critical damage, rather than precise percentages.
Gandolph
ok, ive had a day to digest it a bit, possibly not as bad as i originally thought, but maybe as Nic said rather than precise calculations.
