Slaves show up in Inventory rather than Personnel.

If I had any slaves....

I would want to see them listed as Personnel rather than items...

Then I would set them free, of course!

I think in this context Slave is a term used by the phoenix program/game database to classify items. It does not imply that the item in question is illegal or morally questionable.
We've had such a discussion before when somebody noted that Alien Attack Animals are classed as Slaves - some players argued that having them therefore implied slavery by the affiliation owning them.

Slave item class = OOC!

I'm not sure if they were carried over to Phoenix, but in BSE there was an item named Pleasure Slaves and in Phoenix terms it would be a living trade good, not a slave item. Slave items provide work hours, control- or combat factors.
Therefore:

IC Slavery = nothing to do with item class.
