| There have been two cases over the last week where a tiny GP has appeared in the same sector, on the ground, as a Starbase with the GPs affiliation on its ground enemy list. In both case the GP was not engaged by the Starbase Long Range weaponry. The reason given was "Failed to pin target for combat". This is totally unreasonable as a GP on the surface would have to move at an incredible speed to avoid an unexpected incomming artillery barrage or missile salvo. The implication is that GPs on the ground are being treated the same as GPs in orbit. As a side point the GPs also seem to ignore the effects of tractor beams if they are in orbit. | |||

| We have also reported the fact that GPs in orbit do not seem to be affected by tractor beams to Mica a few weeks ago. Thomas | |||

| Tractor beams are LOS weapons so if the position with the tractor beams is a starbase then it will not be able to lock on unless the GP attacks the starbase with LOS weapons. Its the same with small ships moving into orbit, if the ships are not seen by the platform then the starbase cannot drag them into combat. But if its a platform with lots of sensors that sees the GP but it does not stop a GP then this is a bug. As to the nimble GP, its the same issue with the pinning rules. Starbases cannot pin since they have zero movement so even if they can see the position they cannot initiate combat. In some ways this is a bug but in other ways its not since a shuttle based GP can avoid long range combat just like in BSE. If you allow starbases to attack anything that it sees in the sector then you have no advantage for shuttle based GPs, assault tanks have lower stats for this reason. Nic | |||

| the GP was spotted by a platform. also can you tell me what artillery MK II is for? if a starbase cannot use it against a GP then artillery is only good in some respects if you are the one attacking. obviously it will come into use when someone attacks you but until that point it cannot shoot at anything, until some one shoots at the starbase first. or am i getting this wrong. anyway as i say the GP was spotted from orbit | |||

Sounds like the United Nations Forces Rules of Engagement. "Do not shoot unless the other side kills you first" Geoff |
