If you "upgrade from internet" using the offline editor a couple of things happen;

1. The orders.cfg file you recieve doesn't include the TU costs of the orders so everything is suffixed with [+0] rather than the order cost (something I always found reasonably handy, if only as a hint).

2. It replaces pl_items.cfg without asking for confirmation first, not a huge problem but some warning this was going to happen would have been nice - especially if it's going to overwrite a perfectly good file with a much more basic one that doesn't include items already known to my account.

That said they look like nice features and I look forwards to using them in the future.

ok - will look into that. Sounds like something that i forgot about or have 1/2 done.

To be fair it does say to back things up before using the beta in yellow. On the kjc website.

Also all additions to item files can be places in other files such as xxx_items.cfg and they will be loaded. So i kind of assumed that pl_items only contained basic data.

Fair enough, didn't realise you could do that with the items file.

With the new editor I went to build complexes but the list has more than just complexes.

Using the new updated Off-Line Editor, with the Up-Load Via Internet option.

When clicking the send turns button, it brings up the transfer box and then... creashes. Giving me a nice "this program has an error and must close (probably due to XP being SNAFU)".
Fortunately, my turns were still intact when I re-opened the editor. It crashed several times, and I resorted to email the turns.

happy.gif juding by some of the comments on the yahoo list i think the bright yellow wasn't enough, people probably don't read websites.

Either that or they downloaded it directly from the menu and not from the downloads page.

Uploading turns with the offliine editor seems to work okay for me, however the 'systems' button in the 'database' menu kinda crashes it.

Did this cause a problem for you before, of teh 1.3.x version ?
David Bethel
@ Ro'a-lith and Clay

Can you zip the whole order editor directory and send it to me at darak@compuserve.com. Makes sure its the whole c:/program files/skeletal/phoenix directory, not just some of the files there.

Then we can see if it is system related or some data causing a problem.

Avatar
Roa'a,

I had that happen to me and it was because a system had been misterously replicated. When i deleted the extra folder it started to work fine
Ro'a-lith
Um... my Phoenix directory comes to something like 20mb. Zipped.

I'll trim out some of the unnecessary subdirectories I keep useful documents in and have a play. Thanks for the suggestion Pedro, but I don't have any systems duplicated.

I assume using Firefox as my default browser wouldn't be causing any problems?

k - get it to crash with less than 10Ms and then you can pop it to me and we should beable to figure it out
Paul
If you use the Move to Planet Orbit order it lists all planets rather than filtering by the chosen system.

EDIT: Soz .. just noticed it had its own thread.

I to have a problem with uploading turns via the internet.
First time it worked o'k but after that it crashed.

Some other points.
When using the move to planet order after inputting the system number the planets in that system are not listed and the list I get is the same all the time.

Using the move to starbase order there is now no box listing the starbase name which used to be convenient to check that I had input the correct number.

Did you install to a fresh directory ? It looks lik ethat is cause by no starbase data.

Does the move from cgi to ccgi affect the offline order editors ability to upload turns and also to upgrade itself from the internet?
If so is there a new release of the editor that deals with this?

At the moment I am having to generate a turns file and mail it in each day.

Thanks,

EDIT:
Ok, got an answer elsewhere, and yes it did mad.gif

Ok I can't upload a file to this forum, but for those comfortable editing the registry directly the following needs to be done:

Under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Skeletal\PhoenixUtil]

The value for "UploadSite"

Needs changing from "cgi.kjcgames.com"
To "ccgi.kjcgames.com"

I accept no responsibility if anyone breaks anything by editing their own registry!

And just on the off-chance of getting a few people to break their machines... to access your registry, click start > run and type 'regedit' biggrin.gif

Related note, any chance we could have aff names prefixed with their aff code in the data produced by the online upgrade?

At the moment it appears the affiliation data the upgrade delivers just includes the aff number & name - having the aff code (ie CNF/IMP etc) in there makes it a little clearer when working with the limited length drop downs inside the offline editor.
