When I do orders I still jump to the previous position ... occasionally. Sometimes I get kicked all the way out.

Counted the times ... about 1 in 10.

Yep got one today,

almost made a ship try and exploit some metals smile.gif

Still not perfectly fixed but one errors in something like 10 to 12 positions i did isn't so bad. (although actually harder to notice tongue.gif)

I had it happen too. On the plus side, it's MUCH better than it was before (1 every 2-3 days instead of 1 every 2-3 mouse clicks).

Still not totally satisfactory though. Spent 15 minutes finely crafting the wording of a special action... which disappeared up it's own **** *** when I posted it back, and the editor kicked me back to the 'turns' page.

And I wasn't logged in twice; I save the 'information' page to local disk, and re-open that in a seperate window for reference.

Did it say user 'Invalid User Name' or 'Connection Timed Out' as it will log you out if you do 'nothing' for 20mins. So if you are typing a special for a long time that may happen.
ptb
I've been put back to the turns page as well, with all kinds of orders. not as often as it used to be but still once a day or so.

if you click the url bar and hit enter you stay at the turns page but your order gets added to the correct position smile.gif
Jumping_Jack
No, the problem turned out to be 'text string too long' or somesuch. rolleyes.gif - first time it's happened; I'm usually a bit more concise.

But this was after it has simply dumped me out to the 'turns' screen on the first error. And, subsequent entries simply 'lost' the entered text until it fell under the editors text size limit. If it could warn without loosing the text, that would be much friendlier.

I can confirm that the SA has been located - it seems to be in regular orbit around position 15250, and shows up every 3-5 days.

I'd still like to know more about the 'monster island' order that's in the same set though..

Monster Island vs Phoenix...

If you log into the Phoenix part of the online editor... play wiith stuff, look at the info page, then...

Switch to Monster Island and check the info page (which doesn't do anything fot MI positions)...

(something like that anyway...)

You see a System.. eg Acropolis or Aladdin etc etc etc...

Now... let me tell you... my Monsters are thick! They usually have trouble finding their feet/head/arms/weapons/food ... but they have no problems jumping universes and traversing interstellar space without the use of Star Ships...

So ... if you spot a lone Fatblob orbiting somewhere in Gamma 15... please don't shoot it...

Unless it follows Shroud!

Personally I've been having noticably more problems recently than I used to, not sure if i've just been unlucky or something but it seems worse.

Edit: before doug comments I mean problems with the order editor, don't expect kjc to fix any other type happy.gif

Which browser versions are people using?

Mostly I use firefox 1.5, I have a fair selection installed and haven't noticed a difference. Although I don't check often with the others.

Argh, this is just the worst thing about the game. That said, I just almost issued market buys from a ship. I really don't know what that would have done, for all I know the captain pops open a hatch and starts trading with passers by. That could be a whole new avenue of opportunity.
Mica Goldstone
David is going to fix this, but it is not a quick fix (or it would have been done). He said that he would have to code it again in the same manner as a forum, i.e. the session data is SQL rather than cookies.
Jumping_Jack
The long term 'loosing it's thread' problem is getting worse, if anything, and a new feature is slow response times and loss of connection, with the message:

Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'rumpus.force9.net' (4) in /files/home3/kjcgames/orders/connect.php on line 6
Can't connect to MySQL server on 'rumpus.force9.net' (4)

...Which is happening 3-4 times an hour IN ADDITION to the other existing problems.

This is getting unusable... only the prospect of the work involved in getting my offline editor up to date stopped me shifting back to it weeks ago.

David has spent January banging through this. We hope to have it up very soon.

Thats all well and good for the 'wrong page' issues, but when will force 9 fix that sql server bug, cause thats the bigger issue right now imo, the other thing i could cope with.

This is not actually true; I got the fault last night, and more than ever at the moment. They have also posted the same "We have fixed it, it should be working fine now" at least twice.

The game is getting very difficult to play - discounting the online editor, the SQL connection problem effects the Starbase Market pages, too.

I have tried reporting a problem, as a force9 customer having difficulties linking to a force9 hosted website, but they eventually came back with "Can I supply the fault number, raised by the website owner"?

TonyH

Looks like they posted another 'we've fixed it' message last night. Since then i haven't seen any problems so it's useable smile.gif

Can someone mention if they get issues with orders going off to the incorrect positions after today. We made a little change which may correct this but its difficult to repeat the bug

No doubt they will begin about 6.30pm and ramp up as we head into the weekend sad.gif

Sorry Guys,

I had the problem last night...

And a little earlier today...

Sorry I didn't mention it then.

Doing my turns today and still had the problem - but nowhere near as often as before. I was writing an SA from a starbase, hit the issue order button and the SA disappeared and I was thrown back to the Turns page. i hope that doesnt mean the SA has appeared on someone elses turn!

It seems to happen if I dont issue an order for a little while and then continue, as if it forgets what position I was working on ohmy.gif

Did everyone have multiple browsers/windows to the order editor open at the same time? e.g. one window showing a position, another showing political data etc
ptb
Nope, I only use one window for the order editor, if i need position data I have my email open as well.

I can try playing with my caching options again incase thats the problem smile.gif

I use firefox for turns if that causes any differences to you, will try explorer when i do turns tonight just incase.

I only had one window open to the order editor. I may have had other windows open too, but cant remember.

I use Firefox as well...

Mark
Mica Goldstone
We hoped that the bug was only having one session data being shared by multiple browsers (or tabs in firefox) that caused the turn data for one position to be saved to another position as other position was set as the active one in the session data. There are now multiple session datas created with each new browser (though not sure about tabs in Firefox). This might just simply be a Firefox issue that was partly cured by the change.
ptb
I've only been using single tab in a single browser for the order editor, since we first got this problem.
COH_Gord
I only have the editor open in one browser.

I have had several ship turns fail or mess up due to this. It is quite annoying when you have to do 30-40 turns.

Gordon mad.gif
Jumping_Jack

I strongly suspect that I've just lost a ship due to it being vulnerable, because yesterday the online editor posted orders to it meant for another position, when it randomly switched positions on me, as it does dozens of times a night. Checking for bug-induced errors, as well as having to take 2,3,4 attempts to do some orders is more than cancelling any benefits from the online order input, and loosing me up to an hour of my time every weekday night.

Is there any progress towards getting this fairly fundamental part of the game, working?

TonyH
ptb
A while ago it was mentioned that it started when you got mulitiple servers from force9.

QUOTE (Tony on the phoenix yahoo list)

If this is the case, ie more than one apache serve serving the php pages, make sure the php.ini file puts the session data in a common location because it defaults to not doing that and is a fairly common problem and one that gives the results we are getting.

I imagine you'd have to talk to force9 to change it if it's the case. (I have little faith in force9 these days happy.gif)
Jumping_Jack
It's getting EVEN worse. The online position display updated mid morning...and then rolled back again mid-afternoon. OK; back to the email printouts... Except that some of them claim to be at positions DIFFERENT to where the online said they were earlier... and when entering orders you have to constantly watch whether they actually get posted to the position they are intended.
This is NOTHING TO DO with browsers, or tabs, or multiple windows.

I'm thinking of giving up until the game works. I am reduced to trying to run 30-odd positions from memory, with an order editor which randomizes the orders, in the middle of a war, because warfare is the only element of the game which is given development time. The editor has been screwed for over three months now!

TonyH
ptb
I'm still getting the occsional bug with this, just often enough to be annoying (once or twice each time i do orders).

Most of the time it's just orders going to the wrong ship.

Not sure if anything has been changed but I think it seems slightly better than it used to be.
