I entered on my political to create 2 naval officers at a starbase.

However, it stated on the political report :

>Date 4.2: Create Officer {4829} {Gulp@} {552} {Naval Officer - Yes}
A Naplian Mercenary (552) has been promoted to officer.
Gulp@ is currently stationed at DNA Angel's Nest (4829).
Error - Position does not exist.
This action cost you 1000 stellars

>Date 4.2: Create Officer {4829} {Gulp@1} {553} {Naval Officer - Yes}
A Naplian Crew (553) has been promoted to officer.
Gulp@1 is currently stationed at DNA Angel's Nest (4829).
Error - Position does not exist.
This action cost you 1000 stellars

However, they rocked up at the starbase as civilian officers.

OFFICERS
1 Gulp@ (#1) { Civilian }
1 Gulp@1 (#2) { Civilian }

I believe this to a be a bug.

It happened under battle conditions - would this adversley effect it?

I would guess that it is trying to promote the officer before updating the position, or refreshing the position information. I would imagine this is an easy code-tweek.

I think the officers have to be assigned to a ship before thay can be promoted to Naval status.
That may be the position error and I think that process cost more than 1,000.

$1,000 is the standard cost for creating a civilian officer, so whatever the bug/feature is - and it may very well be the officer needs to be on a ship to go naval - you haven't been overcharged at least.

But you can use Naval officers in a starbase/outpost/platform, no? Especially for accuracy, CFs and scanning power? At least, I think you should, if you can't.
Mica Goldstone
The bug was a wrong error message - the political simply did not have $10k to make the officers Naval on top of the $1k fee for creating them.
Wraith
how do you transfer Naval Officers from a starbase to a ship? since they don't have a position number what order and idenitification code do you use?
Dan Reed
use the number starting # (including the #)

The standard pickup / deliver order you would normally used, but as Dan said don't forget the # symbol smile.gif

thanks guys.

It turns out that I have two "deliver" and "pickup" orders in my offline editor, the second version of each actually mentions using the '#'.
Presumably one release updated it but didn't remove the old order.
