While i'm playing with things - would there be any point adding sonething to download emails from a standard POP3 account (when they had Phoenix) in the subject line ? ie would it be widly used ?

If it also archives the turns in some way and acts as a past turns browser as well as an order editor then I'd say definately yes! One more step towards the universal Phoenix Client...

Agreed - but the KJC Phoenix forum also contains the word Phoenix. As, for that matter, does the "Phoenix Account Transactions" mail, and the Phoenix SSS mail, and the... Might not stand for everyone, but a few people no doubt like me have all phoenix game stuff coming through the same account. Does open up other options for creating a more user friendly custom GUI for the offline phoenix client in future, though?

I assume you are talking about the filtering problem? You simply check for emails from kjc@kjcgames.com with phoenix in the subject. (if you want even further checking turns follow a fairly predictable format, you only need to read the first few lines)

As long as it leaves mails on the server and can handle remember what email it's already done. I use imap personally and although setting up pop3 would be no problem it would mean it trys to download a few thousand turn emails each time as they won't ever be deleted. Hmm can you do pop3 of ssl as well, cause i'm not sure i can have unsecure connections to my server at all anymore ![]()

Why would you want them left on?
Steve-Law | |||||
Presumably as a second line of "archiving". I would probably keep a set in my email client as well as in the editor, but I have a second email address setup just for turns so I would just use one or the other for the editor/client and would then prefer to have them deleted ![]() A toggle - delete or leave - should be included though just for completeness and to allow the user to choose.

Didn't think of that, if i used the offline editor and it only deleted emails then i'd do it that way, although i still think that should be optional. The reason i said i want them left on the server is that i use imap, and as such don't have the emails locally (and also means i get the same mailbox at work and at home). If it deleted the emails i wouldn't be able to read them ![]()

np with making deletion option but it will not be ssl and it will download all emails completely to support crappy servers like mine. So it would be most suitable for a turns only account which does not seem to be unusual. Not sure about remembering what it has downloaded.

If it needs the use of a second account the delete/download options aren't really a big issue. The SSL thing is annoying but i can proxy to use that so not a problem for me at aleast. What will it parse in turns? will it add new positions that you control? just wondering cause thats one of hte main benifits in the online order editor, i always can see what i have, and the information tab means i can see the last lot of info about them too, makes life easy.

I'd use this functionality but only to parse turns, so some sort of automated facility would be needed to parse all turns received. I would actually use 3 email addresses. 1. my main contact email for non-turns email 2. my turns email which would use POP3 into the order editor 3. my turns email which would use POP3 into Outlook Outlook will have alot more functionality thn the order editor such as downloading for archiving, searching in the email text (very useful) etc etc, so I would still want to use Outlook as a primary viewing medium. Alternatively would it be possible to upload an outlook .pst file into the order editor to parse in one go? It is then really easy to share order editor files between members of an affiliation particularly the system and item information stuff. Parsing of tech manuals would be nice as well to get a complete list of all the tech manuals available. Andy

Have you tried parsing a pst file anyway? might just work. I know i used to parse my email archives (before i used the online editor) although these where in the standard mbox format, which is pretty much plaintext emails anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion Can confirm .pst does not work However if you select the emails you want to parse in Outlook and do a "save as", then the parser will parse that file successfully Now that's a big help Andy |
