Ok, I couldn't find an existing thread to put this in, but it's just a quick suggestion I have for the offline editor:

I think it would be nice to have a "Load and append orders"button as well as the "Load" (orders) button we currently have.

This would allow me to have sections of useful orders saved, like move to planet orbit, wait for x tus, move to wormhole, enter wormhole, move to planet orbit, wait for x tus.

I could then write some turn specific orders, then append those saved orders, and then add some more turn specific orders at the end. It would just save having to write those few turns over and over for different ships, on different routes, but all having to traverse, (in this instance), the wormhole. At the moment the order editor wipes out any orders that you have already written when you do a 'Load Orders'.

EDIT: Ok, as others have commented I will join in, I use the offline editor exclusively smile.gif

Just a thought / suggestion,

I second that request.
Also, it would be interesting to see how many players rely on the online/offline order editor, respectively. Could we have a "vote" with the 3 options of online, offline, both or something?
Myself, I have a pretty bad internet connection and thus tend to work offline although I have used the online order editor a few times to submit orders when I was not at home.

I third the request - sounds like a spiffing idea to me - oh and I use the offline editor exclusively, never ever used the online one.

Call me perverse, but I actually use both in conjunction. The online editor is great for things like keeping track of political issues/votes, and the position list broken down by system is a very useful tool.

However, I use the offline editor for doing all my turns, as well as things like the parser etc.

I had problems with turns not being actioned so I only use the online editor.

Mainly offline, but I regularly use the online editor to check ship location, available TUs and to check on any new votes before my political gets run at the end of the week.

I have never used the online version for capturing orders... too slow and cumbersome for my taste. I only send emails when the offline submission fails. However, the online editor has its advantages, especially for travellers.

Call me perverse, but I have the same usage pattern as Ro'a-lith.

And with an Append option, it would be easy to repeat the same set of orders. Much more useful to me than further refinements of the battle program (no criticism intented, David, you're doing a great job!).

Agree that an 'Append' option would be a great time saver for me and a very useful addition to the order editor.

I use the offline editor all the time. So does that mean i'm not perverse any more ??

Ok going to jump in with another 'option' here.

With the number of people that are using the offline order editor's new 'Upgrade from internet' option, (but are forgetting to backup first), it might be a nice idea for the upgrade process to offer the user the chance to backup their files as part of the process?

Just a thought smile.gif

Instead of adding that with the editor requesting do you want to, save a little time and create an automatic backup based on the current date. The player can always delete a backup if they do not want it, but forgetting to 'make' the backup may hurt. -- move your mouse wrong, twitchy fingers, etc... smile.gif

When you use the Upload Turns to Internet Option the system creates at .trn file with the current date. Unfortunately if you do another upload the same day it overwrites the first .trn file. Could not unique files be created for each upload? Like 06/10/05turn1.trn, 06/10/05turn2.trn.
