If you try to board a pirate vessel that you own, it will fail citing the comment that you cannot board a position that you own.

This will not however prevent you attacking a pirate vessel that you own.

Boarding is a private scenario and is blocked to prevent you boarding your own positions and gaining experience.

Attacking is a public event and often witnessed by other factions, so if they have stated that they will attack pirates, they will do so, even secretly allied ones.

So if you have pirates on your ground enemy list and the order to destroy ships you fail to board, you will not board them because they are your own, but you will then pound them into oblivion. ohmy.gif

Basically, if you intend servicing pirates at your starbase, do not have them on your enemy lists.

couldn't you just get an aff buddy to build a few PIR as well...

I'll board yours and you board mine?

Maybe remove XP from PIR boarding altogether?

Seems a bit drastic to me! Also seems unfair on affiliations like the SMS who actively pursue Pirates and would not get the benefit of gaining combat experience - so should they ever be dragged into a conflict with another affiliation they wouldn't be able to use that experience gained

ok fair enough - but if the SMS ever get involved in a battle with an AFF that has been power-levelling it's officers then they're going to lose anyway.

You never know we might just surprise you biggrin.gif

I have a host of ex-freighter captains, survey captains and the like with shed loads of xp that have never seen combat. Got quite a few 30+ that are now putting their talents to better use than cargo unloading cool.gif

apologies - was just using the aff name mentioned previously and wasn't meant as a slur on the battle prowess of the SMS.
StellarMining
No slur taken. After all the SMS are a mining Aff and not war based like many others. The only reason we hunt pirates is because one was stupid enough to attack SMS shipping lines some time back. We just wanted to make a point that we could defend our assets. Unfortunately for the pirates, the SMS have a long memory!

Of course, like the Fleet Commodore pointed out, the SMS have been around for a long time and as such we have some very experienced ship captains. Indeed I really must stop using 20+ experience captains on cargo ships! rolleyes.gif
Jons
No slur taken, it has always been part of the SMS profile that we actively hunt pirates where ever we can find them. With this in mind, if every battle I had I received zero xp even though I had taken/received damage from pirates I would be considering stopping and changing the Aff profile to 'if you get attacked don't call me' wink.gif

Still get XP for attacking them, just not for boarding - would still be designated PIR even if you did, so them you'd have your own aff after you ohmy.gif
