Space interceptors work against space fighters and bombers launched from viable targets. Viable targets are those on your target list, i.e. positions noted as enemies during the combat as a result of your enemy, support and defend lists. For a specialised Space Interceptor Carrier it is best to use defend affiliation. The reason for this is that any position attacking somebody you are defending will be added to your target list and as a result, your space interceptors will be sent to counter their space interceptors/fighters/bombers. Obviously adding an entire affiliation to your enemy list gives the same result, but requires a higher rank. In the battle over Trinity 204.18.3 it was found that many in the IMP fleet had support IMP but not defend IMP, this limited the number of positions that were added to the Space Interceptor Carrier's target list and as a result some of the enemy Space Fighter Carriers were not targeted by the IMP Space Interceptor Carriers. It is important to remember that the combat is dynamic. This means that it is not a simple case of them and us. The space combat deals with every position as an individual, so it is possible to have many independent battles being fought simultaneously in the same location.

Catch 22. if your ships supporting an admiral have defend affiliation they get scattered round the battle instead of acting as a group against the Admiral's target ![]() Geoff

Looks like we are due some promotions in the Carrier support Group. Geoff

If they are trying to prevent carriers from taking out the admiral's ship, then they need only add the admiral's ship to their defend list. ![]()

If an Interceptor Carrier (IC) is to be used against all enemy Fighter Carriers (FC), then add ally AFF to defend list. If an IC is to be used to protect a specific ship against FC's then add specific ship to defend list.

As I understand it, can you either defend certain ships with interceptor carriers or you can defend all ships. The former has the advantage that you can specify certain valuable ships to be protected (at the expense that some space interceptors will not get involved in the battle) whilst the latter has the advantage that all interceptors will be involved in the battle. My question is, do space interceptors launched from carriers which are given a list of ships to protect have a higher kill ratio than space interceptors used to defend all ships (small area of space to cover etc). I'd imagine they wouldn't kill (intercept) any more either way, but if they are protecting specific targets then the kills/intercepts they do make will be more likely to make a difference (to those they are protecting). |
