I a recent scuffle in the orbit of Milkrun a starbase managed to hit a ship with some Nerve Gas weapons.

The aforsaid Nerve Gas weapons found their way from the starbase store to orbit and latched themselves on the targeted ship. Even more curiously the original quantity is still in the starbase. ohmy.gif

A closer inspection shows the nerve gas as Ground Combat Long Range with Space in the Range column. Other WMD stored at the starbase are shown as Ground Combat Short Range so presumably these would deploy themselves if the starbase were attacked on the ground.

Since WMD are supposed to be deployed by special action and, at least by the IMP, are only kept in case we need to retaliate against someone using them against us, surely they should not be used automatically when appropriate combat takes place.

This needs fixing.

I'm certain that we can all agree that nerve gas should not work in a space battle. I disagree that all womd would need a SA, items like nerve gas might have quiet a high kill rate but it is not huge (50 per MU).

I am certain that there are items out there that will do far more damage. These will need a special order to use
MasterTrader
Whether or not it requires a special action to use WoMD, I can see that it would be preferable to have an option such that any WoMD held are not used automatically in combat!

Ships have a 'Deploy WoD' order which works against a base the ship is docked with, so no SA is needed.

Since no such order exists for a starbase etc then I guess they would only be deployed on individual circumstances, if at all?

Out of interest, if the current program (as described above) is by design, then could a certain MU of nerve gas fired against a target in orbit not require a missile host or something?

and what if (by million to one chance) that missile was blown up en route by a phalanx or similar... should the planetary population and/or starbase not suffer personel losses?

loads of questions, not many answers.

Its not ment to be used in grounbd combat, it must have slipped through cos it has a dmg component. I'll have a look at it today.

David,

Also have a look at chemical bombs and agent X whist you are at it tongue.gif

I am amazed that anybody even thinks about using WOMD. Can we not find more enjoyable ways to kill each other wink.gif

I say disarm all those nasty weapons now. I'm sure the RIP would get rid of them for you!!! blink.gif

Like eveybody else that has so called WMD, we only keep some in case we need to retaliate against someone using them against us. biggrin.gif

Unless the Darkfold lot have developed chemical missiles this one seems to be still happening. orbital attack from starbases:-

Is this from a ground party or starbase...

Is this from a ground party or starbase...

The thee position listed are all starbases shooting at a suicidal scout entering the orbit. There were other weapons involved but they are not relevant to the bug report. (I will send the details direct to David).

I have checked a turn from the week just past and starbase held Nerve Gas Weapons are still shown amongst the ground long range group with space as the range:-

Nerve Gas (880) Space 1000

Ok its most likly me need to do something else - i thought i sorted it with the weapons in cargo issue. But clearly thats flawed for starbases and gp smile.gif
Sam_Toridan
We did think it strange that Nerve Gas was deployed as I don't think its going to be very useful against a ship in a space battle rolleyes.gif
I can confirm the Nerve Gas used was stuff just sitting in the base - not missiles.

Following action seen today I can confirm that nerve gas sat minding its own business in a starbase is still used in combat with ships.
