Reposted this from game mechanics > starbases as it got no response.

At one of my starbases, I issued the 'charge starbase shield' order back at the end of october, with 10 complexes. Given that this particular starbase has over 1000 complexes, this only represents 1% of the total - and for the last 9 weeks or so, the starbase has been showing:

Planetary Shield Effect: x1

With the shield depth, max shields, recharge and shield factors all showing as though there was no starbase shield.

I have since been building more starbase shield complexes, and have brought the total up to 6% of the overall complex quantity.

However, the starbase still shows the shield at the x1 effect level - with no depth increase etc displaying.

Do I need to deactivate and re-charge the shield (taking another 4 weeks?)

What is the x1 effect? That sounds to me that it is the effectiveness of the shields not the number of them. I don't know anything about shield complexes to be honest, but the word "effect" suggests this. Is is just a modifier to the base shield value (effected by atmospheric comditions or whatever)?

If so then it doesn't matter how many shields you have, this value won't change, only where you build them (or if you can somehow change the conditions that effect this value).

But I'm just guessing...

It certainly doesn't sound like its reporting a % of shield to other complexes. Otherwise it would say 1% I would have thought.

For every 2.5% of your total number of complexes in starbase shields, the Planetary Shield effect increases by 1x - so with 5% of my total complexes in starbase shields, I should be getting 2x. However, the shield was charged when there were only 1% complexes built - I have since built more to bring the total up.

Relevent information about starbase shields attached below, from various SSS.

When you have active shield complexes and have your shields charged
(Charge shield complex order), then you will not fire weapons from the
starbase (or launch space fighters). The shield complexes will
strengthen the shields and shield rechargers at from between x1-5, and
add between 0-200 shield depth. You need 10% shield complexes to get the
full effect.

Shield complexes take 4 weeks to charge to full effect after they are
activated. They are also very visible on a starbase and can not be
hidden by caves when they are active.

Oops - I see what you're working at Steve. However, if what you describe is the case - then we need somewhere on the starbase reports the status of the starbase's shield. As else we have no way of telling whether it's charged/discharged, what effect it's providing etc etc.

Ah, I see what you're saying as well now smile.gif (Didn't read that one obviously.)

So basically, with no shield complexes your shields are at x1 (i.e. normal) with 10% shield complexes your sheilds are boosted by x5 and have 200 added to their depth.

It all makes sense now. Yes then I agree with your bug report. smile.gif

If this TM is current then the complex type is wrong on the shield complex....as it needs to be a shield complex and the output/efficency needs seting to 100.
Ro'a-lith
TM was taken from an older SSS.

Back to the original question though - do you need to re-charge shields after you have built new starbase shield complexes?

No planetary shield effect should be automatic. You need shields and rechargers to get any effect though. If mica takes a look at the shield complex that could eb teh problem.
David Bethel
mica fixed this now i think.

Planetary shields are charging: x1.65/x3.6

Yep, certainly seems to be!
