Is it me or could you happily run a ship with only one crew if you overpaided by however many crew you'd normally need?

just wondering cause it seems that as the cost would be the same you could save a lot of cargo/life space for making money. or load out on warships, all those guys and just one person with their finger on the button.

Risky having just one crew member aboard.
What happens if the ship is caught up in combat and the crew member gets killed? wink.gif

The efficiency increase for paying extra cash drops - so simply paying 1 guy 100 stellars doesnt get you the same crew factors as paying 100 guys 1 stellar each.

ahh thats okay then smile.gif

i was under the impression it did (from what the manual said), never tried it though (those crews don't deserve the pay they get, let alone excess!)

I read the two common AFT starships seem to be designed for one crew member, this does seem risky to me. After all a pirate gets a "lucky shot" and he gets a ship with very little resistance. I would suspect maintaining enough crew to man the ship with extra leeway and AI systems would work well together to assure efficienct running of a ship. I'm no expert but it is a common sense look at this.

AI Navigators and AI Combat Navigators make it easy to run a ship with just one crew tongue.gif

But my point is if the human or whatever crewman is taken out the ship is the attackers if they tranfer one person to it. If I get the rules right...why take that chance?

It is true that running ships with only one or two crew means that they can be boarded very easily. However, with the boarding parties that pirates have been using recently, even a ship with 60 or 70 crew is going to be boarded fairly easily. The advantage of running only a couple of crew is that it is a _lot_ cheaper on wages. Which is why all of my freighters run with minimal crew, and the standard AFT ship designs are set up that way.

Thats why you should put an couple of AI's on your ship plus an load of marines.. The AI will take care of the crewfactors and the marines are protecting your vessel.

70 crews might not save your ship, but 70 marines are a bit harder to take out.

And to be honest, if you have problems paying 70 stellars per week for wages on the profit your traderuns are making then you will have problems whatsoever to pay for the maintaince the AFT bases are charging <g>
