Been searching through the previous posts for this, and cant find it.

What are the benefits / limits of allying to another affiliation? I believe it would allow my navel officers to 'add to defend list' the other aff, which couldn't otherwise be done... but can you still attack an affiliation you are allied to?

A wierd question, I know... it's a Krell thing.

You can not attack affiliations you are allied with. At the same time, to add a specific affiliation to your enemy list you need to declare war. You can put 'everyone' on your enemy lists, then you will attack everything except your allies.

I was one of the first that used the 'everyone' on my enemy lists and I ended up shooting up my own ships. biggrin.gif They fixed it very quick but it was a fun bug... smile.gif

So, if allied, I couldn't even target specific positions of the allied affiliation?

You can always post the ships in which case you don't need to declare war.

Even the ships of allies.

In reality allies attack allies all the time. Look at Russia and Germany. I blew one of my own ships up one time. Surely I can blow up someone elses. Like Gordan just said, basically weather you're allied or not, you can always add a ship...or for that matter, an affiliation to your posted list. Of course that would spoil the surprise. Best thing to do is have you a list of all the cnf/bhd/cia/dtr ships, and the night before you attack...at THAT point add all these positions to your lists. I'm a great stratigist, huh? clif

In my own experience, it is possible to attack allied positions. VIZ: my destruction of an outpost on Mobile Bay.

There were a few mistakes when I did this, as I forgot to remove support lists etcetera, and ended up in a free for all between AFT positions where I lost the oupost I was intending to capture, 1 Agent previously captured by that outpost during a training mission, 2 ships, and a whole lot of other incidental damage.

Now the outpost was an AFT outpost, so how more allied can you get, and no pre-existing DOW was in place.

In this light, I believe it generally possible that you could attack anyone without a pre-existing DOW, further it should also be possible to attack specific allied positions.

You cannot attack unless the position is posted or you are at war. The exception to the rule is GP's, bases and platforms who can add anyone to their lists.

My understanding was that you can not attack allies that are not on the posted list. Anyone else is fair game.

Can you specifically target someone to attack? regardless of your various combat lists?

Not got into much combat so far so don't really know all the orders, if you can does this still follow the non-allies or posted list rule? and if so why? smile.gif
