I thought that the Shield Recharge value was zero because my shields were already at Max.... although I didn't see why it was changed. Judging by evidence from Richard above, it appears my assumption was so much Miniture Hairy Cow refuse. The Planetary Shield Effect is wether the Shield Complexes are Active, yes? I assume the there are three states: Off, Charging and On. So no, you can't switch it on without have Shield Complexes * Hi-jacks the Thread from the AFT Talking of Shield Complexes,

Yes it determines if it is on or not. The effect modifer grows for 4 weeks and then is fully effective after that. Any deactivation of complexes ore turning off the shield are immediate.
They are basic tech and mica is adding soon.
no
Yes you can fire next day and there is no shield effect at that point.
Point defence works with the shield up as do scints and any other defence effect.
Ground combat can only be short range with the shields up. All sector or planetary range attacks are stopped (or they should be )
Yes ships can dock as normal

Thanks for the clarification David I can also say that I'm very happy with the way this works - especially the Ground Combat effect.

Can space interceptors and ground fighters be allowed to work with the shield complexes on as these are defensive items?
Mandible | |||||||||||||||||
Why does it stop sector and planetary attacks, but orbital and space attacks still work against the starbase(albeit their damage likely being absorbed into the shields)? Or do you mean the Starbase itself cannot do them, but enemies can still hit the base with sector/planetary attacks? Mark

Why are fighters stopped while ships aren't prevenetd from landing? Surely the shield is high enough to allow straffing. If it prevents the physical moving into inside the shield then ships should be prevented from docking
Dan Reed | |||||||||||||||||
it's a game mechanic... the complexes are to make starbases more defensible, not useless for outside contact but if you want a reason, say that ship landing do so down pre-arranged paths at slow enough speeds that the shield doesn't affect them - or something like that. Fighters wouldn't, else they would be sitting ducks to be picked off Dan
David Bethel | |||||||||||||||||
Yup - reasons are easy but its a game mechanic to provent highly defended attackers.
Andy | |||||||||||||||||
If landing ships are on the ground enemy list and the shield complexes retard their progress in landing then wouldn't that make them more vulnerable to attack from the starbase? Perhaps the starbase should get a few rounds in first like with the boarding scenario for ships? Just a thought

Yeah, if boarding ships gives that, then surely landing on a base that should happen as well. That goes for shuttle landings as well. Look there are shuttles landing, but we won't fire upon them because they don't have a position number attached to them, like those nice and considerate troop ships |
