Different types of 'trained' veterans can be converted into operatives with a bias towards having higher skill levels in particular skill areas, depending on their original training.

Can a verteran mercenary be used to create a lower-skilled more 'generic' operative? If not... why shouldn't we be able to? Possibly with a lower-level, 'randomly allocated', prime skill... or a bias towards a moderate-level assassination or sabotage skill, perhaps?

Not a major game effect, but a 'nice to have'.

Getting veteran mercs is really easy, you just need to stage a battle and ignore the losses (mercs are cheap as chips)

Killing off troops in this way, to get veteran ones is expensive in training times.

I'm not suggesting they should be as good as proper troop-type veterans; All skills being in the 10-30% range might be appropriate.

It just might be a niche for players who have raised the required thousand stellars, but dont have the proper cardre of veterans to convert, on account of not being an aff that gets into wars much. Their operatives wouldn't be as able... which seems appropriate. At least they could be used to attempt low-risk stuff, like 'Hire Agent'. And, they could be raised up to a more normal level, by use.

Bit of excitement for the big boys too - their 'ace' pros detecting and eliminating the amateurish semi-trained guys? Think of the fun, as well as the risk - this is supposed to be a game, after all.

You can already make operatives from Veteran Mercs. They are not as good as the trained Vets. So I'm not sure what your question is.

One thing to keep in mind is that you need a Political in order to run Operatives/Agents.

This was the answer to my first question, so the rest isnt relevant. It sounds like there were a fair few others who didn't know that operatives can be created from veteran mercs as well - the rules imply otherwise.

I thought the rules or background details for the game imply you CAN run agents/operatives without a KJC account at least... and without an account you cant have a political surely? No matter. Shouldnt be a restriction for me much longer.

Possibly you can run them, but i think it's a political order to create them.

Nope the position they are located at,either base or ship/GP creates the operative. tongue.gif

It costs stellars to run agent activity - and as the agent/op is not aboard one of your positions when you run the agent actions, then it can't draw from that positions stellar account. Therefore you need the central repository of stellars inherent with the Political position.
