I have never got the 'Investigate blurb' order to work correctly... I keep wasting orders... any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's a SA result I wanted to follow up with a 'Investigate blurb' order: TU 96: Special Action {...} {...} Don't let the science team have any rest until they have procured a supply of Quear vines... and have fully investigated them. If they find anything useful to do with this plant I may give the crew a bonus! Result: Investigation/xxxxxx/Swamp/Quear Vine The Quear Vine is a type of algae that forms a mesh across the bottom of the pools. This mat is periodically pulled up to the surface by the buoyant Floaters, but then sink when the Floaters die. No uses are found for it. Bugger, there goes that bonus. Total TU cost for this action is 75 Here's the 'Investigate Blurb' order - and the failure reponse... TU 21: Investigate Blurb {Investigation/xxxxx/Swamp/Floater} {The algae is not suitable for commercial use but it would be possible to exploit it for terraforming purposes.} Error - Header/Match string did not have a match on this planet. Information processing charge of 100 stellars. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? FYI I use (and prefer) the online order editor... Thanks. GTDoug.

From that SA I would try; Header Investigation/xxxxxx/Swamp/Quear Vine Blurb The Quear Vine is a type of algae that forms a mesh across the bottom of the pools. This mat is periodically pulled up to the surface by the buoyant Floaters, but then sink when the Floaters die. No uses are found for it. Bugger, there goes that bonus. You can probably get away with just the first sentence or so of the blurb. If spelling/grammar mistakes were originally made they should be kept as they were.

You can actually get away with even less of that. I'm not sure what the current minimum character length is (David?), but you should usually use the minimum length required (I usually round up to the nearest word, but it shouldn't matter). e.g. if it is 20 characters just use "The Quear Vine is a" If that fails try a selection from elsewhere e.g. "but then sink when the" in case of corrections to original mistakes, re-formatting etc.

Doh! I just realised that i posted up the wrong SA response here... sorry... I'll go find the right one. ![]() GTDoug.

Doesn't matter, same principles apply, just pick out the minimal length of selection and from different parts of the result. Note also that you should try and avoid a selection that breaks over two lines, the formatting of the turn puts exdtra spaces in but I don't know if the searched text has that or not? Also, if you've just done this SA why do you want to do an investigate order? That is just to "convert" BSE results into Phoenix (isn't it?).

Hi, The 'line breaks' thing is probably the answer then - the online order editor doesn't allow much text without a line break appearring... Your second comment re old BSE turns is interesting though... The order editor does not say it's for that purpose - and if that's what it is for then I would love someone to confirm it. I didn't play BSE... so don't know myself. I assume you are saying that 'Investigate blurb' had been replaced by 'Special action' now we are in Phoenix. I was using it to try to expand on a comment made in a SA result - without using (and paying for) another SA. That's what I thought it was for. GTDoug.

I think the original use of the Investigate blurb was to show old BSE investigations in the new Phoenix format. Basically an old BSE investigation which would produce 200 food for example wouldnt have the resource number and other details now used in Phoenix.

"This order prints the resource associated with the special action that contain the header/match string. " So it is just for displaying resource information (the primary purpose is to convert old resource details into current resource details, eg. in BSE you might have found a source of "power", but this doesn't exist in Phoenix so it will be changed to something else. Also there was no 10% drop in BSE etc...). Probably not very clear from that description... I assume this order will still work on Pheonix era special actions, but you might well get an error if there is no resource found in that particular result (like the example one you gave has NO resource.) If you want to dig deeper into an investigation/exploration you have to use another Special Action. Careful there, they get very addictive and Mica is a master of hinting at stuff you just can't ignore so you end up investigating absolutely everything and still think you've missed something... ![]()

I've tried a large number of investigate blurb commands and pretty much all of them failed, only to give them the same header and text if i run a special action along the same lines. I emailed kjc about it but havn't got a reply, and currently i'm not very impressed because i'm wasting money investigating stuff i already know, and not new stuff that would intresst me. In fact this may relate back to a bug i filled about a year ago and was told it would be looked into but it's not urgent. Which is fair enough, but it's now a lot later and i would like to contine with my explorations. (edit will repost this as a bug, so someone actually looks into it ![]()

To date I have yet to get a successful answer back from the order. I got tons of documents of old BSE data but not a single one has been successfully returned to me.. and while I do remember a few spelling errors from when I played BSE chances are that at least one of the orders should have come through... so IMHO the order doesn't work and I have stopped using it. And yep, I tried the Email Mica - No Response part as well ![]() This obviously leaves me with 2 choices: do the SA for something I already now but doesnt have a resource number for or save the money to explore places I have no info for... must have a very good reason for doing the SA for "known" info. It works really well on most stuff although some stuff does not work. If it dosn't work try submitting a special action asking for the Phoenix converted resource. Mica generally does not charge for this stuff as it is a conversion issue, although If you spam him with loads of requests like this he may do ![]() Make sure you are on the same planet as the BSE SA when you do the order. |
