A couple of things: Continuing on from the thread in general discussion would it be possible to add Ground Combat options for officer training. Maybe something to influence ground tactics to reduce casaulties increase dmg done whioch woud you to use certain ground combat tactics with greater effect. for example storm position could reduce the casualties % Also option to increase the bonus on combat factors wen calculating perc% loss/gain of ground. So for example you could train in agressive tactics, defensive tactics and say fortification or similar names or if you have enough points all of the above. Also would it possible to list officers that having training points available on the political report so making it easier ot locate and train when running lots of ships etc.

Just another quick thing about officers. The need for them to be at a starbase to train. Which, I know isn't implimented yet while people are training up existing officers. But. I was thinking, for new-ish players, who might not have a starbase yet. It's a lot of trouble for them to drop off their officer at somebody elses base, and have them train them for them. Would it not be better to just allow officers to be trained wherever they happen to be? That way new players could see the instant result, and instant results = happy players? It just seems like a lot of micro-management to me, to earn an exp point, then have to take your ship to a base, drop off, train, etc.

Taining suggests dedicated courses and training resources rather than "on the job" training on board. Who trains the captain, he is supposed to be the most experienced member of the crew. Geoff

I'd have to disagree with Geoff on this one. As the experience is awarded aboard the ship for activities that the ship is doing, I think that all 'training' represents is a direction where the controlling player wants to direct the officer's advancement, rather than a dedicated course of study at a starbase. Otherwise, it should just be possible to put people through the training courses at the starbase and have an army of Sun Tsu's running around ![]() Who'd you rather have lead you into battle: A First Lieutenant straight out of OCS with no field experience or a 20 year veteran Master Sergeant? Who's better 'trained'? 'Real World' experience is far more valuable, and earned at a dearer cost, than training seminars... Personally? Both! They have different jobs. The Lt's job is to lead, the Sgt's job is to make things happen. There's a place for both formal training and experience.

If a starbase has an officer that is picked up by a ship with the code #5 but there are no other officers on the ship, will that officer remain as #5 for the remainder of the turn or convert to #1? I want to run the train officer order immediately on pickup and not sure which I should use. Thanks Andy

Should be #1, but send in orders for both numbers then you'll be sure of getting the right one ![]()

Yup, it takes the lowest number possible in the new position. Eventually we will also include string option so that the following orders will all produce the result: Manifest 1 Adam Cartwright (#1) - 1 mus Pick-up #1 Pick-up item type (officer) Pick up "Adam Cartwright"

Why is it necessary to 'hand over' an officer to train them at a starbase training complex anyway? - you dont have to hand over control of a ship to have it conduct maintenance at a complex which is part of somebody elses starbase. i.e. Officer training should be a ship order, usable while docked at a starbase with sufficient training complexes (Two or more complexes to train a skill to level two, perhaps?...) The rest of the crew can play cards while they're waiting... same as they do while the ship undergoes maintenance. TonyH

You don't: > TU 120: Train Officer {#1} {7} Thadeus Marque (#1) trained to level 1 (-1) Trade.
It is a ship order and the above was performed from a ship while docked at a starbase upon an officer that had no experience upon conversion - using up experience that he gained since conversion Cheers, Rich Fanning aka ![]() Lord Lawrence Scrimm CIA Intelligence Director

I know you dont at the moment; I am currently training officers on ships in 'deep space' - this issue is what the process will be, when fully established. Current plans call for the officer to be trained while resident at a starbase, I believe. While I think this should continue, I think a 'training visit' should be allowable for officers, when docked at a starbase with training complexes... while remaining attached to a specific vessel. Actually, re-reading Davids original post, I'm not sure if what I'm arguing for might not already be what is planned:

I have picked up an officer from a starbase and trained while on a ship docked in the starbase - this worked. It did not work while in space - I assume because the ship did not have the officer on the "conversion" So I think it is already working Andy |
